week6

This week was pretty good. I finished my assignment 1 with my friend and got the expected results. The lab of this week was pretty easy just like I did in csc108. It was about comprehension, loop and unit test. The lecture of this week was about tree lists. It was a little bit difficult that need me using recursive function and imaging what the tree looks like.

The assignment 2 was post when I just submitted my first assignment. This assignment is more abstract and I even do not know where I should start. During the reading week, I will make an effort to understand this assignment.

week5

This week was busy. I had to take other course’s test. In addition, the assignment1 will be due on next week. The lab of this week about recursive functions was not difficult but needs we think deeply.  It was useful for doing assignment. Binary representation and getting greatest common denominator are two interesting functions. They are not only helpful for computer science but also mathematics.

Yesterday, I got stuck in the step5 of the assignment. After I read the lecture slide of this week and searched something about Hanoi, I worked out and finished Tour class. This step was the most difficult one. Lots of recursive functions needed to be written.

The lecture of this week was not difficult, but I still felt confused about scopes and namespaces.

week4

This week was not hard but there were many things to do. I needed to do readings about inheritance, raising exception, recursion and choosing test cases. Some of them I learned in csc108, but there are still lots of things that are new and difficult for me.  In addition, I needed to start doing assignment 1 which is about Tower of Hanoi. There were a large amount of functions that I need to understand and implement.

This week’s lab was good and we switched our partner. We finished most of exercises without error, but at the end of the class, we got stuck in a function called ‘property ()’. Although, the TA helped us solving this, this function was still difficult for me.

By doing labs, exercises, and assignments, I found that computer programming is interesting and useful. Python is a great tool for knowing programing. It deserves studying, because it practices our logical thinking and finding ways of solving difficulty.

I am a Chinese, and this is my first year. My English is not good, and I still have to learn more to improve myself. No matter what, I love studying and living in Toronto.   

week3

This week I learned something about Object-Oriented Programming of python. These knowledge are similar to what I learned on csc108. I did not program before and do not know other programing tool, but I think Python is a good programing tool. Python’s language is easier to understand and write. It will have examples or type contract for each argument.

The readings of this week are not difficult, but they are direct and easy to understand. In csc108, every week I would watch the videos before the class. Therefore, in my view, watching videos is a more efficient way than doing readings.

The lab of this week is not hard. I did well with my partner. When I got a mission of programing, I needed to focus on some important nouns or verbs. These words are very helpful for writing function’s name and class’s name.

Learning computer program is very interesting. When I get an assignment, I need to work out in different way and choose an easy one. It is similar to what I do in math. I can use many ways to solve one problem. In Python, when we write function or method, everyone has his own thoughts, so there is no single solution.
